June 4, 2021 Friday evening
Brian had a day with Steve today. I had some drainage, so I stayed home and took care of myself. Steve had a bit of a scare at the beginning of dialysis. The danger of dialysis is that it tends to lower blood pressure, and his went very low. They were able to raise it up and lower his heart rate back to normal with medications, but they were only able to filter the blood, not take off any fluid as it was possible that it would bring down his blood pressure again. He was not as responsive today as he was yesterday and much of that is because of the toxin buildup because they did not do dialysis yesterday. The condition is Uremia and the toxins tend to have a sedative effect on Steve. We continue praying for solid heart rate and blood pressure so the dialysis can continue giving his kidneys a rest.
I chatted with his nurse Wendy tonight, Wendy was responsible for cleaning up Steve's beard and hair, he looked so dapper! We are so thankful for all the loving care they give Steve and us. She said that she hasn't had to increase any heart or BP meds, but she also hasn't decreased, the good news is that the dosage isn't as high as the other day.
The verse of the day tomorrow is one that I have held so close to me as each bump occurs. When bumps occur it is difficult not to look at the future and worry. I have to go to the battlefield of my mind and and remind myself how I have been held and loved by The Lord and by all the hands and feet around us.

It seems so simple, this verse, but to be able to stay in the present is a gift. Love you all, thank you for all the prayers, especially for all the amazing nurses, techs, doctors, therapists and all who have a hand in Steve's journey. Please continue to pray for each bed and family represented. I am so humbled to have so many praying for us and supporting us, I know full well that many who are on the ICU do not.
