Happy Friday night! Just received a call from Dr. M with great news and prayer points.
Steve has overcome the acute injury from the covid/pneumonia which is great! We are now dealing with the residual covid complications.
1. Covid causes confusion, disorientation and makes it difficult to wake even though they stopped sedation over a day ago. They will be giving Steve coffee in his feeding tube tomorrow! Kaiti said that once he realizes it is Folgers that he will wake right up and be very offended. LOL They are hoping that this will do the wakey wakey for Steve and they won't have to use meds to wake him up. They will be doing a CAT scan tonight to make sure there was no damage done or stroke while he was fighting. This is all normal.
2. His kidney function isn't great, but it is not getting worse and is stable, they are happy about this and from all the blood work fully expect the numbers to continue going in the right direction.
He is now frowning along with gagging and coughing! Wooohooo this means he is trying really hard to wake up! Dr. M said that he really is breathing well, great effort and very good diaphragm strength. Just need to wake up to maintain airway!
This is all fantastic news. He is so happy with the improvement over the last two days! Praise God! Praise God for all of you prayer warriors and all the hands and feet providing, caring, lifting us up and loving on us. We are so thankful and humbled by the outpouring for Steve and for us. Love you all, have blessed and restful sleep. I'll update sometime tomorrow!
