May 16, 2021 9pm

Finally had a chance to talk to Dr Mendi this evening, Steve has had a very stable day and is progressing very well in lungs, kidneys, heart etc. The CT scan results showed evidence of strokes on the right side and he will be going in tonight for an MRI so the Neurologist has more details about the degree of the strokes. Though Steve is not awake yet, this is not uncommon in Covid recovery and is actually a blessing because it gives his body more time to rest and brain more time to heal before dealing with talking, eating, and moving. The doctor said that it is normal neurologically for covid patients to take a long time to heal the brain and wake.

Remember that there are so many unknowns and they have only been dealing with this virus for a year, so there is no playbook and every case is different. He did mention that Steve was young, and that will be a huge blessing in his recovery. I know that this news is overwhelming and scary, but we have a big God who loves us, holds us and hears our heart cry through the scary times and he never leaves us, but walks with us. God is good all the time.

This is hard stuff, but I am reminded that as a Christ follower, our time here on earth isn't so much about Steve or our family or our circle. That is the small story, which is intricately woven into God's perfect plan. I think of Esther in the Bible. She was taken from her family and forced to marry a ruthless king, for such a time as this. This was her mission field. With her position, she was able to save her people from slaughter. The Jewish people still celebrate this!

We are all placed in our mission fields whether we know it or not. Are we being obedient to the calling God has over our lives to intercede for the lost and the hopeless and to minister to all whom we come in contact with?  Right now, Dr. Mendi and the nurses I talked to sounded so defeated and frazzled, it has been a really rough few days. What if The Lord is using our difficult circumstances to pray for others? Until a week ago this was not a part of my prayer life or conscious thought. What if there is someone on that floor who has never experienced the abundant overflow of His love and peace. What if this Caring Bridge that is reaching thousands has connected us all to pray in concert over 12 patients, 12 beds, Interventionist(doctors), nurses, med techs, specialists, technicians, therapists. Many on the ICU know that they are prayed for daily by name, it has changed our relationship. It is changing hearts, it IS bearing FRUIT. Each one of your prayers has impact, each of your prayers has power in the name of Jesus. It would bless us so much if you could let us know what bed or care-givers you are praying for.

The Lord has a way of bringing beauty from ashes and we choose to see the good fruit and beauty that is coming forth in abundance. We continually praise God for each of you.

  • Nicole Horsch : Steve is the elder of the ICU❤️ Little does he know He’s brought the goodness of God to all those drs, nurses, and patients. He’s ministering from his place of rest. Praying for little impact from the strokes, and that they will work in his favor. We love you all!

  • Ann Poulter : God is good and His timing is perfect. Even though everyone thought He was 4 days late with Lazarus; He was still on time. He may be asleep in the natural but we don’t know how God is working in him. We will continue to pray for him, you and all the other beds and healthcare providers. He is our Strength and our Provider. In Him we find our rest. Continue to lean on Him because He promises that His yoke is easy and He will not fail you or let you down. I love you and I’m here if you need anything. Love you, Ken and Ann
